Computer Networking 10-Step

Step 1. Go online to www.uvu.edu/leadership and retrieve an application, then choose your intended certification.
Step 2. Participate in a self and peer assessment process (360). Pay a $75 one time fee.
Step 3. Document your personal leadership journey.
Step 4. Participate in personal and group coaching sessions to identify areas of possible improvement.
Step 5. Begin your academic core of leadership courses.
Certification of Leadership with High Distinction (4 required courses/3 elective credits).
Certification of Leadership with Distinction (3 required courses/3 elective credits).
Certification of Leadership (3 required courses).
To get the Certification of Leadership requires taking 9 credit hours, for the Certification of Leadership with Distinction 12 credits, and Certification of Leadership with High Distinction 15 credits.
Step 6. Choose any number of workshop/seminar experiences designed to advance your leadership skills.
Certification of Leadership with High Distinction (45 hours).
Certification of Leadership with Distinction (30 hours).
Certification of Leadership (15 hours).
CAL provides a free monthly Lunch and Learn sessions that train individuals in different aspects of leadership. There are also more detailed day-versions of the Lunch and Learn program that can be attended for a nominal fee. There are also several workshop/seminar options both on and off campus that you can choose from to serve your needs. These can be identified and discussed with the Director.
Step 7. Participate in personal and/or group project(s) designed to provide practical leadership experience.
Certification of Leadership with High Distinction (60 hours).
Certification of Leadership with Distinction (45 hours).
Certification of Leadership (30 hours).
This can be fulfilled by engaging in CAL projects, or other projects found around the campus/community through Service Learning, or creating your own project which will enhance your personal and professional leadership abilities.
Step 8. Capstone Experience: Interview and learn from leader(s) in your chosen major.
Each student will provide a portfolio of accomplishment to ensure all requirements have been completed.
Certification of Leadership with High Distinction (5 interviews and 7 pg. report).
Certification of Leadership with Distinction (3 interviews and 5 pg. report).
Certification of Leadership (1 interview and 3 pg. report).
As you talk with leaders in your career, you can learn valuable information from these individuals prior to entering the computer networking field. This is a great opportunity for you to identify the important secrets of their success.
Step 9. Portfolio Review and Certification.
Each student will provide a portfolio of accomplishment to ensure all requirements have been completed.
Step 10. Use the CAL to help promote you to your next employer.
After the portfolio review, each student will receive their Leadership Certification as part of their college transcripts. The Center for the Advancement of Leadership will then assist each student by writing a letter of recommendation, acting as a formal reference, and promoting students when searching for the perfect career opportunity.
